Miguel Angel Torres.....And Still Bantamweight Champion of the World !!

Miguel Torres (37-1) retains his Bantamweight championship title, but not without a scare from Takeya Mizugaki (11-3-2) who gave Torres the fight of his life. Mizugaki the Japanese fighter showed his standup skills by going toe to toe with the Champion. Torres escaped with a narrow decision by using his superior conditioning to outwork the challenger and down the stretch, landed the cleaner more effective shots.

The first couple of rounds Mizugaki had great success with powerful hooks to the body and excellent takedown defense. In the third round Mizugaki cut the champion above his right eye and the doctor stepped in to assess the damage. Luckily, the cut was minor and Torres who was unshaken throughout the close bout showed the character of a champion and fought through.

The pace of the fight favored Torres who never slowed down and was able to grind the challenger into the corner, using the clinch to his advantage. Afterwards Torres said that he was impressed by his opponents heart "He stood in there the whole time. I have a lot of respect for him. No one's ever taken me that far in my career yet."

The main event was also the fight of the night and earned each man a $10,000 bonus. Number 1. contender Brian Bowles, who had to pull out of the fight with Torres, due to a back injury said that he thought the fight was a war and is looking forward to challenging Torres for the Bantamweight title and should be ready to go in August.
