Jose Canseco to fight MMA in Japan
Former Bash Brother and MLB steroid whistle blower Jose Canseco, has apparently signed with Japan based MMA promotion Dream to fight on their May 26th Dream9 Card in Kanagawa, Japan. Canseco's opponent will be 6'8" 350lb K-1 kickboxer Hong Man Choi. The fight will be a part of Dreams newly announced super heavyweight tournament and will feature Ikuhisa Minowa against Bob Sapp, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou facing Jan Nortje, and Gegard Mousasi fighting Mark Hunt. According to NightmareOfBattle.com special rules for the tournament will be implemented such as shorter rounds and no knee strikes to a downed opponent.
This is not Canseco's first foray into combat sports, the Ex-major leaguer was knocked out by former NFL runningback Vai Sikahema in a boxing match. Canseco, who claims to be a skilled martial artist also boxed former child star Donnie Bonaduce to a draw in a boxing exhibition. Hong Man Choi, is a veteran kickboxer and although he only has a 1-2 MMA record his only losses came from Fedor Emeliananko and Mirko "Crocop" Flipovic. This fight would never be sanctioned in the U.S., but is just the type of freak show match the Japananese fans love. If Canseco actually goes through with this fight, he could possibly get hurt.
