Martin Kampmann defeats former WEC Champ Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 18

Martin Kampmann welcomed Carlos Condit to the UFC by handing the former WEC Welterweight champ his first loss in eight fights. The two evenly matched Welterweights put on a technical clinic with several well executed transitions and submission attempts. Kampmann was able to just get by Condit, winning a split decision that could have gone either way.

The fight marks the arrival of two new talented fighters, to an already crowded UFC Welterweight division. Kampmann made his UFC Welterweight debut, cutting from 185lbs after being oversized by larger Middleweights such as Nate Marquardt, who typically walks around at well over 200lbs.

Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader, showed his wrestling prowess by continually taking down and controlling UFC veteran Carmelo Marrero for three rounds. The action was often slow paced, even drawing boo's from the Tenessee crowd Bader agreed after the fight that his performance could have been better "I felt like I fought not up to my potential, Bader added "But, I'm young and I've got a long career here."

Tyson Griffin and Rafael Dos Anjos earned "fight of the night" bonus as Griffin narrowly held on to defeat Dos Anjos by split decision.

Cole Miller, who had a war of words with outspoken Ultimate Fighter contestant Junie Browning, got the last word by defeating Browning with a well executed guillotine choke in the first round. Miller did not hide his disdain for the brash young fighter, commenting after the fight "I just knew as soon as he felt my power he was going to try and take me down," Miller said. "That's just the inexperience factor."

Ultimate Fight Night 18 took place in Nashville, Tennessee and drew a record crowd with 10,267 fans attending the sold out Sommet Center. The official live gate reported by the UFC was $626,077 which was less than the record set by Fight Night 13 in Broomfield, Colorado that topped an impressive $753,429 gate.
