Jose Canseco to fight MMA in Japan
Former Bash Brother and MLB steroid whistle blower Jose Canseco, has apparently signed with Japan based MMA promotion Dream to fight on their May 26th Dream9 Card in Kanagawa, Japan. Canseco's opponent will be 6'8" 350lb K-1 kickboxer Hong Man Choi. The fight will be a part of Dreams newly announced super heavyweight tournament and will feature Ikuhisa Minowa against Bob Sapp, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou facing Jan Nortje, and Gegard Mousasi fighting Mark Hunt. According to NightmareOfBattle.com special rules for the tournament will be implemented such as shorter rounds and no knee strikes to a downed opponent.
This is not Canseco's first foray into combat sports, the Ex-major leaguer was knocked out by former NFL runningback Vai Sikahema in a boxing match. Canseco, who claims to be a skilled martial artist also boxed former child star Donnie Bonaduce to a draw in a boxing exhibition. Hong Man Choi, is a veteran kickboxer and although he only has a 1-2 MMA record his only losses came from Fedor Emeliananko and Mirko "Crocop" Flipovic. This fight would never be sanctioned in the U.S., but is just the type of freak show match the Japananese fans love. If Canseco actually goes through with this fight, he could possibly get hurt.

Pictures of Fedor vs Shinya Aoki In a Grappling Match
Only in Japan would someone think to match up P4P Heavyweight champion Fedor Emeliananko and grappling phenom Shinya Aoki. The grappling match took place Wednesday at the Deep/M-1 Challenge event at the Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The two fighters met in a light hearted event meant to peak the curiosity of MMA fans. The contest was not televised, but video of the event is suppose to be posted by M-1 Global for free on May 4th.
Reports say, that Fedor played with Aoki most of the match, releasing several submissions to move on to other techniques. According to Sportsnavi.com, Fedor even let Aoki put a submission on him to simply power out of it. The match was more of a sparring session and ended with Fedor tapping Aoki out with an achilles lock three minutes into the five minute exhibition.
Kim Couture Pulls Out of Strikefoce Fresno, CA: Marital Problems Rumored
Kim Couture (1-1) wife of Randy "The Natural Couture" has dropped out of her fight with MMA female fighter Miesha Tate (5-1). The fight was suppose to have taken place at SHO MMA: Strikeforce Challengers event at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. on Friday, May 15. According to Meisha "Sugar Free" Tates Myspace page Kim was pulling out of the fight because of marital problems with Randy "So Kim 'Sugar Free' Couture is pulling out of the fight supposedly cuz her and Randy are getting a divorce...........I'm so pissed right now......Sugar Free my ass!!".
Meisha Tate later removed the Myspace posting and issued this apology "I forget how famous they are and didn't even think how that might [affect] them and their personal life, which was immature," Tate wrote in a subsequent bulletin. "[I] stress my apology to them and who ever else it may concern".
No other reason was given for Kim Couture's withdrawal from the inagural SHO MMA event set to air live on Showtime. Strikeforce officials have said that they are looking for a replacement to fight Miesha Tate in Kim's absence.

Anderson Silva Vs Forrest Griffin Announced for UFC 101
UFC 101, which takes place August 8th at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia has added an intriguing light-heavyweight match between Middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva and TUF 1 winner and former LHW champion Forrest Griffin. This fight is a bit of a surprise for some, but with Silva cleaning out the UFC Middleweight division and in need of a high profile fight, the very popular Griffin should bring in higher PPV numbers for the UFC. This will be Silva's second fight at LHW in the UFC, in his first LHW fight Silva defeated James "Sandman" Irvin in 1:01 of the first round.
Anderson Silva has been highly criticized for his last two effective, but less than spectacular title defenses. Some feel that Silva has simply been bored by his lack of competition in the UFC middleweight division and has expressed his interest in only fighting blockbuster matches, in the four remaining fights on his UFC contract. A step up in weight class to fight the very tough Forrest Griffin who has wins over top ranked LHW's Rampage Jackson and Shogun Rua will be Silva's toughest test since entering the UFC and maybe of his entire career.
This forces top Middleweight contenders Nate "The Great" Marquardt and Damien Maia to put their title-shots on hold. Many would like to see Marquardt and Maia fight for the number one contender spot while Silva is busy moving up a weight class. The rumored superfight between Anderson Silva and GSP will also have to be put on hold as Silva chases bigger challenges in the UFC's LHW division.

The "Philippine Wrecking Machine" Mark Munoz, Moving Down to Middleweight Set to Face Nick Catone at UFC 102
Vallejo native and Filipino born fighter Mark Munoz (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) is set to take on UFC fighter Nick Catone (6-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC)at UFC 102. Munoz had a tough UFC debut losing to experienced veteran Matt "The Hammer" Hamill at UFC 96. Catone is 1-1 in the UFC and although he should be a tough opponent, this will be a much more competitive match than the vicious KO Munoz received in his bout with Hamill. The step down in competition, as well as in weight class should help Munoz to get his first victory in the octagon.
Lets hope the "Philippine Wrecking Machine" has learned how to Duck:

Greasegate Part 2: Anderson Silva this time
After so much controversy between GSP and BJ Penn for the Greasegate incident, now P4P fighter Anderson Silva has put himself smack dab in the middle of it. Before his fight with Thales Leites at UFC 97, Silva can be seen blatantly rubbing vaseline from his face onto his body.
Most viewers probably missed Silva applying the Vaseline to himself before the first round, but after watching the video clip, one has to wonder if the athletic commission will step in and investigate. After the GSP/BJ Penn fight the commission implemented rules about only letting the cutmen like "Stitch" apply vaseline to fighters, but obviously letting a fighter rub his own face and smear it on his body is just as bad as having a trainer do the same thing.

UFC 97: Betting Odds from Betus.com
Understanding UFC and MMA Betting Lines from http://www.betwwx.com/ufc-odds/
Here is an explanation of how the UFC odds or betting line work. When you bet on a UFC fight, you bet on a money line not a point spread like basketball for example. You only bet on the winner of the fight. Below is a typical mixed martial arts betting line you would see in a Vegas sportsbook.
Fighter A -200
Fighter B +200
Two fighters are listed above. The fighter with the negative number next to his name (i.e. -200) is always the favorite while the fighter with the positive figure is the underdog. For Fighter A, the negative figure is the amount of money you need to bet on this fighter in order to earn $100. The positive figure next to Fighter B on the other hand is the profit you would earn if the you bet $100 on that fighter. You’re not required bet $100 but you simply use that ratio given by the betting line to figure out the returns.
The UFC betting line is not static, meaning it can change at any time for a number of reasons. A lot of money coming in for a particular fighter for example will force the sports books to adjust his line. However unlike horse racing once you’ve place your bet, your odds or payout don’t change. You’re bet is secure no matter where or when you wager was placed. These same rules apply to both Vegas sportsbooks and online bookmakers like Bodog or Betus.

Scott Coker President of "Stikeforce" interview with FiveOuncesOfPain.com
Scott Coker is the Dana White of the San Jose based MMA organization "Stikeforce" but personality wise, he could not be any different. Coker is calm, mild mannered, and tends to stay out of the spotlight, choosing to conduct business away from the media. Dana on the other hand is a true showman often making over the top comments and bold statements in order to generate interest and stir controversy.
With the bankruptcy of rival Pro Elite Inc. and armed with a television contract with Showtime/CBS, Strikeforce is poised to make some noise in the MMA world. Coker and company have made solid business decisions growing their brand regionally and earning the respect of many in the MMA community. The upcoming April 11 fight between MMA legend Frank Shamrock and MMA bad boy Nick Diaz in San Jose, CA is the kickoff to a promising era for Scott Coker and his Strikeforce team.

Miguel Angel Torres.....And Still Bantamweight Champion of the World !!
Miguel Torres (37-1) retains his Bantamweight championship title, but not without a scare from Takeya Mizugaki (11-3-2) who gave Torres the fight of his life. Mizugaki the Japanese fighter showed his standup skills by going toe to toe with the Champion. Torres escaped with a narrow decision by using his superior conditioning to outwork the challenger and down the stretch, landed the cleaner more effective shots.
The first couple of rounds Mizugaki had great success with powerful hooks to the body and excellent takedown defense. In the third round Mizugaki cut the champion above his right eye and the doctor stepped in to assess the damage. Luckily, the cut was minor and Torres who was unshaken throughout the close bout showed the character of a champion and fought through.
The pace of the fight favored Torres who never slowed down and was able to grind the challenger into the corner, using the clinch to his advantage. Afterwards Torres said that he was impressed by his opponents heart "He stood in there the whole time. I have a lot of respect for him. No one's ever taken me that far in my career yet."
The main event was also the fight of the night and earned each man a $10,000 bonus. Number 1. contender Brian Bowles, who had to pull out of the fight with Torres, due to a back injury said that he thought the fight was a war and is looking forward to challenging Torres for the Bantamweight title and should be ready to go in August.

Shinya Aoki Knocked Out of Dream Welterweight Grand Prix
Top ranked Lightweight Shinya Aoki (20-4) found out the hard way that weight classes do matter. Aoki, who stepped up a weight class competed in Dreams Welterweight tournament and was defeated by veteran fighter Hayato "Mach" Sakurai (35-8-2). Sakurai is an experienced fighter and has notable wins over Frank Trigg, Jens Pulver and an earlier win over Aoki in 2005.
Much like Rampage has Liddell's number, so it seems does Sakauri have the style and strength to counter Aoki's grappling skills. The last time Aoki and Sakurai fought it went to a decision, this time Sakurai won in a much more convincing fashion. This is Sakurai's third straight victory and he is considered one of the favorites in the Welterweight tournament.
Shinya Aoki and BJ Penn the two top Lightweights have both been unsuccessful in their attempt to move up to welterweight in the past year. The lesson here is pretty simple, when you have two great fighters evenly matched size and strength can make all the difference in the world. Hopefully, they have both learned their lessons and can move on to defend their natural weight class.

Dana White's Verbal Thrashing of Sherdog Reporter Lorreta Hunt
EMBED-Dana Whites Fight Night 18 video blog - Watch more free videos
In his UFC Fight Night 18 Video Blog Dana White uses the entire last 3 minutes to lay a seriously brutal, verbal smackdown on Sherdog writer Lorreta Hunt. Dana was unhappy with an article that Hunt wrote on Sherdog.com, in which the writer accused the UFC and Dana White of conspiring to ban fighter agents and managers from the backstage areas, in order to gain influence over the fighters. Dana retaliated in his Fight Night 18 Vlog using profanity to describe both Lorreta Hunt's article as well as her unidentified source.
The Video Blog including the 3 minute tirade on Lorreta Hunt was originally posted on the UFC Youtube page but has since been removed. Yahoo sports as well as Fox sports have picked up on the story and negative fallout from Dana's tirade including a gay slur could be bad for the UFC's image, as well as for the outspoken UFC president.
Here is the link to the Lorreta Hunt article that got Dana so heated.

Martin Kampmann defeats former WEC Champ Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 18
Martin Kampmann welcomed Carlos Condit to the UFC by handing the former WEC Welterweight champ his first loss in eight fights. The two evenly matched Welterweights put on a technical clinic with several well executed transitions and submission attempts. Kampmann was able to just get by Condit, winning a split decision that could have gone either way.
The fight marks the arrival of two new talented fighters, to an already crowded UFC Welterweight division. Kampmann made his UFC Welterweight debut, cutting from 185lbs after being oversized by larger Middleweights such as Nate Marquardt, who typically walks around at well over 200lbs.
Ultimate Fighter winner Ryan Bader, showed his wrestling prowess by continually taking down and controlling UFC veteran Carmelo Marrero for three rounds. The action was often slow paced, even drawing boo's from the Tenessee crowd Bader agreed after the fight that his performance could have been better "I felt like I fought not up to my potential, Bader added "But, I'm young and I've got a long career here."
Tyson Griffin and Rafael Dos Anjos earned "fight of the night" bonus as Griffin narrowly held on to defeat Dos Anjos by split decision.
Cole Miller, who had a war of words with outspoken Ultimate Fighter contestant Junie Browning, got the last word by defeating Browning with a well executed guillotine choke in the first round. Miller did not hide his disdain for the brash young fighter, commenting after the fight "I just knew as soon as he felt my power he was going to try and take me down," Miller said. "That's just the inexperience factor."
Ultimate Fight Night 18 took place in Nashville, Tennessee and drew a record crowd with 10,267 fans attending the sold out Sommet Center. The official live gate reported by the UFC was $626,077 which was less than the record set by Fight Night 13 in Broomfield, Colorado that topped an impressive $753,429 gate.
