Shinya Aoki (19-3) is Sherdog's no. 2 and MMAWeekly's no. 1 ranked lightweight fighter in the world. But, you have probably never even heard of the talented Judo/Jiu Jitsu fighter. Aoki fights for a Japanese organization called Dream, which is often referred to as the new Pride. He has wins over some of the best lightweights in the world including Eddie Alvarez, Joachim Hansen, and JZ Calvacante all ranked in Sherdog's top ten. With his colorful spandex pants and unreal submission skills Aoki is a favorite in Japan and to hardcore fans in America. Although, he is ranked by all the top MMA news outlets over Kenny Florian and Sean Sherk he is still very unknown here in the States. Aoki is currently competing in Dreams Welterweight Grand Prix tournament and has already advanced to the second round.
