Affliction MMA is Dead, Will Once Again Sponsor UFC Fights
MMAWeekly.com has reported that Affliction MMA will fold and become an official sponsor of the UFC. Affliction will come full circle after putting on two very entertaining but financially costly MMA events. After their third show was cancelled due to the loss of Josh barnett after a failed steroid test. The UFC rival has made nice with Dana White and will once again be responsible for countless skulls, crosses, and tribal designs adorned by fighters and wannabe fighters alike.
Affliction Trilogy Cancelled!!!
SI.com first reported that Afflictions third mma event "Trilogy" has been canceled. This has come days after main event fighter Josh Barnett tested positive for steroids and was denied a license to fight by the California State Athletic Commission.
Affliciton was reportedly scrambling to find a replacement for Barnett with fighters like Vitor Belfort, Jeff Monson, and Brett Rogers all rumored to be in the mix of potential contenders. Apparently, the struggling Affliction organization wasn't able to find an economically feasible solution and was pressured by their PPV partners to pull the plug on their third show.
Since their debut show, speculation about how long Affliction could stay in the MMA business has been a hotly debated topic for MMA fans. Dana White said earlier in the year that he thought that Affliction would be out of business by the end of this year. Although, the cancelling of "Trilogy" doesn't automatically mean that Affliciton is done with MMA it certainly doesn't bowed well for their future.

Jose Canseco to fight MMA in Japan
Former Bash Brother and MLB steroid whistle blower Jose Canseco, has apparently signed with Japan based MMA promotion Dream to fight on their May 26th Dream9 Card in Kanagawa, Japan. Canseco's opponent will be 6'8" 350lb K-1 kickboxer Hong Man Choi. The fight will be a part of Dreams newly announced super heavyweight tournament and will feature Ikuhisa Minowa against Bob Sapp, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou facing Jan Nortje, and Gegard Mousasi fighting Mark Hunt. According to NightmareOfBattle.com special rules for the tournament will be implemented such as shorter rounds and no knee strikes to a downed opponent.
This is not Canseco's first foray into combat sports, the Ex-major leaguer was knocked out by former NFL runningback Vai Sikahema in a boxing match. Canseco, who claims to be a skilled martial artist also boxed former child star Donnie Bonaduce to a draw in a boxing exhibition. Hong Man Choi, is a veteran kickboxer and although he only has a 1-2 MMA record his only losses came from Fedor Emeliananko and Mirko "Crocop" Flipovic. This fight would never be sanctioned in the U.S., but is just the type of freak show match the Japananese fans love. If Canseco actually goes through with this fight, he could possibly get hurt.

Pictures of Fedor vs Shinya Aoki In a Grappling Match
Only in Japan would someone think to match up P4P Heavyweight champion Fedor Emeliananko and grappling phenom Shinya Aoki. The grappling match took place Wednesday at the Deep/M-1 Challenge event at the Differ Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. The two fighters met in a light hearted event meant to peak the curiosity of MMA fans. The contest was not televised, but video of the event is suppose to be posted by M-1 Global for free on May 4th.
Reports say, that Fedor played with Aoki most of the match, releasing several submissions to move on to other techniques. According to Sportsnavi.com, Fedor even let Aoki put a submission on him to simply power out of it. The match was more of a sparring session and ended with Fedor tapping Aoki out with an achilles lock three minutes into the five minute exhibition.
