Affliction Trilogy Cancelled!!!
SI.com first reported that Afflictions third mma event "Trilogy" has been canceled. This has come days after main event fighter Josh Barnett tested positive for steroids and was denied a license to fight by the California State Athletic Commission.
Affliciton was reportedly scrambling to find a replacement for Barnett with fighters like Vitor Belfort, Jeff Monson, and Brett Rogers all rumored to be in the mix of potential contenders. Apparently, the struggling Affliction organization wasn't able to find an economically feasible solution and was pressured by their PPV partners to pull the plug on their third show.
Since their debut show, speculation about how long Affliction could stay in the MMA business has been a hotly debated topic for MMA fans. Dana White said earlier in the year that he thought that Affliction would be out of business by the end of this year. Although, the cancelling of "Trilogy" doesn't automatically mean that Affliciton is done with MMA it certainly doesn't bowed well for their future.
